Jackson Pollock revolutionized not only American but also European art in just a few creative years. He gave the style of action painting, in which the manufacturing process of the artwork itself is in the foreground, a completely new dimension with his dripping technique. "Jack the Dripper" let the paint flow straight from the can onto the canvas lying on the floor until the rhythmic pattern of drops and flows of color that was typical for him was formed.

Revered as the most important American contemporary artist, he retired from painting two years before his early death. It was a sensation when 32 previously unknown works were found in a New York warehouse in 2005
